What is radon?

Radon is a colorless, odorless radioactive gas that originates in the soil and enters homes through cracks, around pipes, drain tiles, between the floor and wall joints. Radon is a naturally-occurring gas.

In the United States, radon is the leading cause of lung cancer in non-smokers, and the second leading cause of lung cancer overall. The EPA estimates radon causes approximately 21,000 deaths per year in the US.

70% of Iowa homes have elevated radon  levels.

Is yours one of them?

It is important to test your home for radon. If your home does have high levels of radon, you can take steps to help reduce the amount of radon that enters the house.

According to the EPA, the State of Iowa has the highest percentage of homes above the recommended radon level in the United States.
